I know this sounds very ranty, and it kind of is. But you might as well hope that Elon Musk doesn't say something stupid on Twitter this year, which is the more likely option of the two. Another way is to intentionally attack a stronger enemy and hope that your allies pile in. Then everyone goes "Ahh, a battle! That's what we're supposed to do!" and piles in on the action. The only way a battle seems to happen is if one single army thinks it's stronger than any single enemy army, and those two decide to duke it out. Or maybe it should be called avoidey-avoidey? But that's three syllables and that doesn't really work when doing the doubly-doubly words. It could then come to the conclusion of preferring fighty-fighty over hidey-hidey. The AI doesn't seem to understand if it added together a bunch of small numbers, it would end up with a big number that is bigger than the enemy's big number. It seems impossible for the two armies to ever meet in one big battle. That's a lot of holdings to siege down each on their own turn. The 1st crusade after all lasted for 12 years. And then we repeated it again many times. We finished ours and moved to siege whatever the crusader had just sieged. The crusaders finished their siege and moved to the next target. As soon as the crusaders had sieged down a holding and moved on to siege the next one, we started sieging down the holding they had just sieged. Also pictured, a bunch of bullshitĪfter that, we did come together in harmony. Also pictured, a quarter of the defenders are hunting down 14 very dangerous people in Turkey. Pictured: The Abbasid army confusing South-West and North-East. Granted, they did turn around, but only because they saw a juicy 2k stack they could easily wipe. Your ally in the next province goes "this is a hopeless battle men! On to our ships, and onwards to Alexandria! Where there are no enemies, no allies, and it isn't even a target for the crusade!". That means the enemy will fight you, and only you, in that battle. Too bad you don't have AI like reflexes, because again, you started your movement too late. The enemy starts to attack and your ally goes "maybe we should relocate to a more defensible position?", even though you are quite certain you could easily win the battle. Not a big deal when on the offensive, you'll join the battle a day or two late and help turn the tide like the hero you are.īut if you're on the defence? Oh boy, you're the fat person left for the bear. Did the game play the animation of moving the unit model to the next province and drawing the next arrow? Sucks to be you, the movement was already completed but the animation lagged behind, so now you're again too late. Did you glance at the enemy for a second? Sorry, you'll start your movement a day too late. Have you ever tried following the AI? Unless you play on speed 1 and only focus on following the AI you won't be able to keep up. You'll have dozens of tiny armies running all over the place, you have no idea who you should follow, and if you follow the AI, they're not going to acknowledge you anyway and you'll be left behind. The reason I hate crusades is because the defenders can't get their shit together. Have you ever tried defending in a crusade? I can bet you that you didn't get past trying. Have you ever been a crusader? It's pretty easy, right? Just follow the big boys, siege down a couple of provinces and boom Jesus' is your uncle.
